Multimedia Management and Presentation System (Dissertation project) (05/07 - 06/08) (abstract)

The dissertation was prepared under the supervision of Dr. T. Ryan (the other committee members were Dr. L. Olfman and Dr. R. Eddy). The primary research objective of the dissertation was to develop and evaluate an advanced Web-based learning system called the Multimedia Management and Presentation System (MMPS).
The MMPS was designed to facilitate multimedia-supported instruction by focusing on the following issues:
1. Overcome major technical barriers that are related to the use of physical media products (e.g., DVDs, CDs, videocassettes, or audiotapes) in the classroom.
2. Encourage the use of multimedia in learning environments.
3. Promote active learning and facilitate knowledge construction.
(The dissertation project won a CGU Transdisciplinary Studies Dissertation Grant for the 2007-2008 academic year.)
The National Network for Technology Transfer and Commercialization (N2TEC) (07/02 - 12/04)
Claremont Information and Technology Institute (CITI), School of Information Systems and Technology, CGU
This National Science Foundation (NSF) Partners-for-Innovation project’s purpose was to create and implement a national network called the National Network for Technology Transfer and Commercialization (N2TEC) to coordinate and provide a variety of resources and knowledge so that members, particularly underserved schools and communities, could collaborate and innovate. NSF provided the grant to the University of Southern California as the principal investigator on the project. CITI was responsible for monitoring and assessing the outcomes of this program. As part of his duties, Research Associate Cetiner designed and set up www.t2e.info/n2tec (no longer own the domain name) for CITI’s online evaluation surveys conducted at the end of project’s first and second years.

Mount St. Mary’s College - Student Portfolio Management System (09/02 - 02/03)

This project’s purpose was to utilize OpenSource applications and develop a database-driven Web-based student portfolio management system for Mount St. Mary’s College (MSMC). The original version of the system was running on www.webcampus.org (no longer own the domain name).

Mount Athos Digital Library and Preservation Project (09/01 - 06/02)
CITI, School of Information Systems and Technology, CGU
This project was initiated by the Ancient Biblical Manuscript Center (ABMC) in Claremont, California and the Patriarchal Institute for Patristic Studies (PIPS) in Thessaloniki, Greece. CITI joined ABMC to design and implement a database incorporating scripts from multiple languages (Mount Athos Electronic Catalogue) for this project.

EGITEN - SELCUK, a follow-up project of EGITEN (09/99 - 06/00)

This project aimed at training 106 academicians from Konya Selcuk University, Konya, Turkey to teach computer courses in their university.

Performance Analysis of Web Servers in Online Learning (1999 – 2000)

This research was conducted as part of the MSc. thesis, and it was designed to evaluate the performance of Web servers used in e-learning. The study identified a set of common workload characteristics and made a series of recommendations to improve the performance of Web servers utilized in online learning environments.

Online Information Portal for Non-governmental Organizations (12/99 - 03/00)

This project was initiated to build an online information portal for non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Turkey that would facilitate communication and collaboration among those NGOs so that they would easily be able to coordinate their activities and respond together to natural disasters quickly.

Online Earthquake Relief Project (08/99 – 12/99)

This project was initiated to set up an online information portal in order to organize volunteer efforts in response to the earthquake disaster occurred in Turkey on August 17, 1999. The information portal also provided up-to-date news about the disaster. A small group of graduate students in METU collected the data published on the site, which received more than 30,000 hits during that time. Based on its efficient use of the Internet, the Turkish press described the project as an exemplary civil initiative.
